It’s hard to stay motivated when you’re just trying to survive. The buddy system is a great way to stay the course and have someone to be accountable to. The two of you don’t need to have the same goals but just communicate with each other on a regular schedule. Share your ideas and progress with each other. This will keep you in check and you’ll get more work done.

You’ve come pretty far in your music career. At least you think you have. The weight of not yet being “successful” is bearing down on you. You took guitar lessons for 10 years, attended all the flavor-of-the-month festivals and conferences, performed at every coffee shop and bar in a 100 mile radius, networked your dupa off and still live with mom. Oh, and you have a college degree in something that has nothing to do with music. Where’s the love? Where’s the money?
What you have done does not guarantee what you think you will become. It’s time to stop repeating the same pattern. Face the truth that what you have been doing isn’t working. The focus now is what will you do from this point forward? What are you afraid of? You’ve spent much of your young life chasing this dream of yours. Have you just been running after a dangling carrot without a direction? Maybe you have a roadmap that you’ve been following and it’s not getting you anywhere.
Learn to play an instrument so you don’t have to hire someone. Start writing your own music and stop singing covers. Avoid starting a “Go Fund Me” until you’ve proven without a doubt that you are someone worth investing in. Your benefactors want a return in their investment. Cook and exercise to take care of your body. Study and think to stimulate your brain. Get your business social media up and running by yourself. Learn and master any DAW so you can produce your own music. Earn money so you can afford to invest in yourself. Do whatever it takes to be ready and competitive in this business. Prepare for your success like your life depends on it — because it does. Wake up and get your hands dirty. Your life will thank you for it. |
