Singing is more than just the voice

What level are you at in your artistry? Maybe you’re still sitting in your bedroom singing while your parents are telling you to do your homework. Or perhaps you’ve been singing at open mic and karaoke bars and everyone thinks you’re amazing. Now what? Some of you have written songs and produced an EP and only your friends and family are interested. Maybe you’re simply looking for help with your confidence.
There are so many beginning scenarios but no one to call on to help you. Fear not, artists, I will help you walk out of your labyrinth into a field of possibilities! Singing is only the launch point — the foundation
As a vocal coach, all of my students must learn the basics taught in any good vocal studio: breath support, posture, vocal anatomy, audition preparation, fundamentals of music theory, song interpretation, and an understanding and application of all styles and genres of music from arias to screamo and everything in-between.

I want to help you figure out what to do next no matter what your current state is. It’s true that there is no formula to success in this business, but together we can create a roadmap that works for you.
If you are still in grade or middle school you have big dreams. We will talk about what you need to do to start turning them into a reality. For those of you in high school we can discuss all the different paths you can take in the music business and find a college that fits your goals.
When the time is right you may want to put together your team. This can include producers, an attorney, publicists, accountant, manager, agent — the list is long and can be intimidating. I will help you to prepare so you are moving forward in a logical progression and hiring only those who are necessary for your path.
With more success comes more responsibility for your voice. I will be your gentle voice of reason to keep you in top shape for a demanding schedule.
I have been fortunate to work with many types of artists including Frank Iero (My Chemical Romance); several finalists on The Voice, X-Factor, American Idol, and America’s Got Talent; a young student who was featured on Good Morning America; and Sky Flaherty from the first Broadway tour of Newsies.

Know your voice and others will begin to know who you really are
My work is certainly not focused only on those working on a professional career. I am honored to be helping those who are dealing with school issues or social anxiety so that together we can find the root of their confidence through their singing voice. I have observed this process to be like a domino effect over other facets of their lives. Some of these students have gone on to college to major in Music Therapy, Psychology, and Music Studies. My adult students have used performance techniques from voice lessons in their workplace for company presentations or employee evaluation.
You don’t want to be part of the fast food music scene
You want to do something that feeds the soul
I’ve lived through many generations of the music industry and as much as people want to say it’s changing, I see that the important parts remain the same. That is the essence of music history: the music and lyrics should be like essays of the times to teach the masses. Perhaps you see what’s happening around you and have a deep yearning to try and help. Together we can find a way for you to be a small part of history. Who knows? Maybe you’ll be the sentinel for a new direction!
Although all my students differ in so many ways, the process in which I work with them remains the same: we learn about your voice together. Only then will you have the foundation to create a path that is right for you. Singing is more than just the voice; we just start there.
